Overview
Psychotherapeutic
Services provides psychosocial rehabilitation
(clubhouse) services at Challenge House and
Together House. The clubhouse is open five days
a week from 8:30 to 2:30. PSR programs offer
psychiatric rehabilitation by utilizing a work-ordered
day. Through the operation of the Club House,
members gain skills in areas of daily living,
employment, education, social programming and
recreation.
Services are based on principles of recovery
and assist consumers to increase their functioning
so they can be successful in environments of
their choice with the least amount of ongoing
professional intervention. The program is designed
to serve those men and women who have impaired
role functioning by assisting them in organizing
their strengths and increasing their capacity
to live in the community and improve their quality
of life.
The participants
in PSR programs are called members, not patients
or clients and the focus is on their strengths
not their illness. Work in the Club House, whether
it is clerical, data input, meal preparation
or reaching out to fellow members, provides
a core healing process. Every opportunity provided
is a result of the efforts of the members and
small staff, who work side-by-side, in a unique
partnership. The staff constantly seek out members’
strengths and talents to run the Club House
successfully. One of the most important steps
members take towards greater independence is
transitional employment, where they work in
the community at real jobs. Members also receive
help in securing housing, advancing their education,
obtaining good psychiatric and medical care
and maintaining entitlements. Membership is
for life so members have all the time they need
to secure their new life in the community.
The program is
designed to provide a network of services. The
network is organized around and delivered through
membership in a peer support group. Participants
are expected to be members of the team. The
projects are designed so that the work cannot
be done by staff alone. The attitude of the
staff is one of working with members to accomplish
the day’s work. All members are expected
to take part in the planning and accomplishing
of the work of the Club House. The climate is
set for the member to feel wanted and valued
by other members and staff.
